A travel switch (also known as a limit switch or microswitch) is an electronic switching device used to detect the position of an object or to control mechanical motion. Once the trigger condition is no longer present, the mechanical parts of the travel switch return to their initial position, causing the metal contacts to separate again, thus breaking the circuit connection.
